Call for Abstracts: International Conference ‘1821-2021: Greece in the Mediterranean’
The International Scientific Conference titled “1821-2021: Greece in the Mediterranean” aims to highlight the geopolitical, political, economic, environmental, and cultural dimensions of Greece’s role in the Mediterranean and its multifaceted relationships with Mediterranean countries throughout history.
Organized on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, the conference is a collaboration between the Foundation for Mediterranean Studies, the University of Piraeus, the University of the Aegean, the Ionian University, and the Helleni Ministry of Foreign Affairs, taking place on November 25th and 26th, 2021.
The conference focuses specifically on the significant geopolitical and economic changes in the Mediterranean and their impact on critical sectors of the Greek economy. These include trade transactions of industrial and agricultural products, commercial shipping, demographics, migration, refugee issues, tourism, climate change, maritime environment, and cultural exchanges with Mediterranean countries.
Beyond its historical dimension, the conference aims to document the ongoing political discussions within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Group – EuroMed 9 (France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Croatia, and Slovenia). With Greece holding the rotating presidency of the group, the conference sheds light on advanced aspects of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, which are central to its thematic focus.
The conference also aligns with the Conference on the Future of Europe, examining the significance of the EuroMed 9 and its potential role in the future European landscape amid a constantly evolving global geopolitical context.
The broad participation of citizens and the academic community in this pan-European dialogue is crucial.
In this context, scholars, researchers, and professionals are invited to contribute to the international scientific conference by submitting an abstract of maximum 2 pages (including possible figures, tables, acknowledgements, and references) in Greek, English or French (as MS Word file).
Abstracts should be the summary of original research studies, review analyses, technical notes, project reports, brief reports, or communications covering a wide spectrum of topics enduring ties with the Mediterranean.
Contributions will be accepted after peer review based on their quality, originality, and relevance to the conference theme.
The official language of the conference will be Greek, reflecting the official language of the host country. However, to accommodate a diverse audience, we welcome submissions and presentations in English and French. The conference will be supported by live professional simultaneous interpreting services to ensure effective communication across all three languages.
